Bishop’s Hat Cactus Flowers
We had a beautiful “second spring” day today in which the temperature got up to about 78°. Most areas of the country refer this sort of weather as “Indian Summer,” but here it’s second spring. After all, summer here is more like 102° and who wants that after summer is over.
These beautiful flowers opened on my Bishop’s Cap cactus. I also had some flowers open on the Devil’s Tongue. Click on the image to enlarge.
Bishops Cap Flowers – A New Record
We bought this Bishops cap barrel cactus over ten years ago in the Phoenix area. It lived with us at the California house for most of that time and had flowers most every summer. Since living here in Arizona, it has had many flowers – more and more often – than in the California patio. Today, eight flowers were open simultaneously – a record for this cactus. Bishop’s Cap Cactus in Bloom
We originally bought this bishop’s cap cactus in a three-inch pot here in Arizona back in about 1998. It lived in California and did well there during the years before we retired and brought it back to Arizona. It seemed to like California since it grew into the six-inch pot seen in the image. However, now that it’s here in Arizona, it produces flowers all year long. I took this image today in our courtyard. Click on the image to enlarge.
The Bishop’s Cap Flowers
We bought this Bishop’s Cap cactus near Phoenix, AZ around twelve or thirteen years ago. It was in a three-inch plastic pot and it was the cutest little cactus. We took it to California and planted it in a larger pot and put it out on the patio.
Over the years, the Bishop has grown to it’s current size, about six inches across. Since about the fourth or fifth year we had it on the patio, it has been producing these nice yellow flowers that open and stay for several days. I took this photo this afternoon when all three flowers were fully open. Click on the image to enlarge.
Bishop’s Blossoms
The Bishop’s Cap Cactus keeps on blooming late into the year. These are so pretty! I’m glad there were so many this year. Click on the image below to enlarge.
