Blue Hibiscus

blue hibiscusA couple of weeks ago, we stopped in the garden shop at the new Lowe’s by the Torrance Airport. While we were there, I took some pictures of their flowers. This nice Blue Hibiscus flower caught my eye. According to the Desert Tropicals website, the Blue Hibiscus is a shrub native to western Australia. Click on the image for a larger view.

Pirates of the Marina Del Rey

pirateYesterday, as we were returning from the dentist in Santa Monica, we diverted through the Marina Del Rey via the Venice Canals (see the post below). We wanted to see the scenery and to take some pictures. When Verna looked up to the top of one of the condos along the main Marina channel, she was surprised to see a pirate preparing to launch an attack on vessels in the channel! Birds in the Canals of Venice

We were driving adjacent to the Grand Canal in Venice and spotted these white birds as they climbed up the bank. No, not Venice, Italy but Venice, California. We aren’t sure what species these waterfowl are, but they sure are pretty.

An Early Valentine

valentine orchidFriday, when we passed the floral section at the supermarket, we saw these nice phalaenopsis orchids on display. So, as an early valentine, we decided to get one. It is sitting on the end of the kitchen island where it can be seen from the family and dining rooms. I took this photo of this beautiful flower this morning. Click for the full view.
