Just in time for the Summer vacation! The new GARMIN nüvi GPS system. It’s a good medium entry level navigation system with enough features to be helpful, and simple enough for a neophyte to use. It worked right out of the box with a brilliant display, spoken directions and a 3D perspective map.

Hey, I just bought a Nuvi too. I love it also but I bought mine because I got so lost in Texas on my business trips that I had to get it. I always thought you needed a subscription but I guess all we need is to periodically pay for updates, right? That’s what I’ve heard.

Ours got us to Morro Bay today. It seems to work pretty well.
My understanding is that you should only need to upload new maps to it every year or so, unless you’re not planning to go somewhere, in which case you upgrade before you take the trip.
