Yesterday, our white epiphyllum second and third flowers of the season opened. Epiphyllum is nicknamed the cactus orchid – you can see why. These two flowers along with the host plant are in a seldom passed location outside the back gate so we decided to pick them and put them in a vase in the house where we can enjoy their short but sweet beauty. We went out to the memorial park today to put out some Fathers Day decorations for Verna’s Dad. On our way into the place, we spotted a Cooper’s Hawk swooping low over the ground. Verna took this photo of it during a low pass. It appeared to have some prey on the ground somewhere although we couldn’t see anything there. Cooper’s Hawk sure is a handsome bird.
One of the things Verna likes is to take photos of flowers and gnarly things. With giant yucca trees she gets both. I took this picture while she was taking pictures of the yuccas in Wickenburg, Arizona. Click on the image to enlarge.
I’m a couple days late for Flag Day, but I’ll share this photo that Verna took in Wickenburg during our May visit to the Wickenburg, AZ, Chamber of Commerce.
