We planted a new cactus the other day, and this evening a flower opened up on it. To our surprise, this flower did not have the delicate fragrance of our California cereus cacti which are a different variety. Click on the image to enlarge.

What’s for Dinner?
Pasta Primavera and mozzarella-stuffed meatballs. This is actually a fairly healthy meal. Whole grain pasta, cauliflower, broccoli, lean ground turkey and low-fat mozzarella all topped off with Verna’s low-sodium homemade marinara sauce. Does all that healthy stuff detract from the flavor? Hell no! 😀 Click on the image to enlarge.
Planting the New Cactus
A week ago we bought a cereus cactus and brought it home. Today, we finally got it in the ground in front of the house. We are really looking forward to seeing the flowers bloom. Click on the blue play button for a slideshow of getting it into the ground.
Cholla Cactus Buds
We don’t actually have these cacti in our garden, but there are a couple of them near the RV pull through road and many more on the west and north sides of the property. You can see that they have formidable needles and that when the flowers open, you might not want to try and smell them. Click on the image to enlarge.
