3D Martian Landscape

Martian 3D Panorama

I found this 3D image on the Astronomy Picture Of The Day today. You will need your free pair of 3D glasses to view properly. Sorry, no 2D image available. Click on the image to enlarge.

The panoramic stereo view is composed of images from the roving Curiosity’s Navcam taken at a rest stop during a 100 meter drive on Sol 548 (February 19). The 5.5 kilometer high peak of Mount Sharp, also known as Aeolis Mons, is on the horizon, its base a destination for Curiosity. In the foreground are rows of striated rocks along the Junda outcrop. Centered toward the south-southeast the scene spans 160 degrees.

Our 3D Courtyard

3D CourtyardI took a pair of images of our courtyard a couple of month back in an attempt to get a three-dimensional anaglyph image. Using a couple of software tools, I merged the two images into this red/cyan monochrome 3D image. I had to render it in “shades of gray” because our house is too red and the sky is too blue for comfortable viewing using a red/cyan color image.

2D Courtyard in ColorI cropped one of the image pairs to render the color 2D version at the left. As you can see, the sky is very blue and the house is Sedona red. Also, the flowers in the garden are red and yellow.

Of course, you will need your free pair of 3D glasses to view the anaglyph image

Wickenburg Jail Tree in 3D

Wickenburg Jail Tree

Last week, Verna and I played tourist in old downtown Wickenburg. While we were there, I made two images of the famous Wickenburg Jail Tree and it’s bronze occupant and combined them into the 3D image above. Click on the image to enlarge.

Oh, and if you don’t have a pair of 3D glasses available, you can see the 2D version here.

Our Desert Landscape in 3D

saguaro.pngWhen we were adding landscape to the property a couple of years ago, we had the landscapers install a couple of smaller saguaros in addition to the large one by the garage.

One of the two smaller saguaros is in the center of this image, flanked by some creosote bushes and a cholla cactus behind. Other than the saguaro, the shrubs and cholla were already here.

M47 Patton Tank in 3D

M47 Patton TankWe stopped briefly at the Patton Museum at Chiriaco Summit on Interstate 10 today on our way back from a quick visit to the California House. While we were there, I snapped an image pair of a Korean War vintage M47 Patton Tank and merged them this evening into this 3D anaglyph. I did a post on this same tank in October of 2009, but this one is from a different angle taken through a chain link fence. Click to enlarge.

Of course, you will need your free pair of 3D glasses to view the anaglyph image. If you don’t have your 3D glasses you can view the 2D image here.

A Desert Spa in 3D

A Desert Spa in 3DA few days ago, Verna went to the Spa at Los Caballeros here in town. They gave her a pedicure, a manicure and a facial. She liked it. We plan to make a visit to the spa a regular thing.

While we were there, I took a pair of images of the spa and later combined them into this anaglyph view. Click on the image to enlarge.
