A Desert Compass Cactus in 3D

compass3d.pngThis cactus is growing in our back yard amongst all the native desert plant and animal life. The cactus is about a foot high and ten inches in diameter at the base. Like many other barrel cacti, it leans toward the south, hence the “compass” name.

I was up on the hill behind the RV drive and took the image pair that I merged into this anaglyph image. Click on the image to enlarge.

Helene – A Trojan Moon of Saturn in 3D

HeleneAPOD published this nice image of Helene, one of Saturn’s Trojan Moons. The moon does not orbit the planet, but rather orbits ahead of the planet at one of the Lagrange points leading Saturn in orbit. Both Jupiter and Saturn are known to have these Trojan moons.

Classic Chevy Truck in 3D

Classic Chevy Truck in 3DI spotted this classic “bob tail” Chevy tractor truck parked near the post office in town today. I did a little research on Google images and I think that this is a 1950 model, although I’m not certain. It is vintage, however and in really nice condition.

I believe that Chevrolet is no longer in the big rig business although GMC may still produce tractor trucks.

Classic Model A Ford in 3D

Classic Model A Ford in 3DVerna took several pictures of this extremely well restored Model A today. We were going to the local discount store for a few supplies and saw this car parked in the lot out front. Somebody certainly applied some tender loving care to this beautiful classic. We do not recall seeing this particular classic at the car show the other day, but we may have missed it since we were a late arrival and some of the classics had already left.

I got out my little camera and snapped an image pair to be merged into this 3D image. Of course, you will need your free pair of 3D glasses to view the anaglyph image. In case you do not have 3D glasses, you can view the 2D version here.

Our Trailer In 3D

Our Trailer In 3DI hitched up the trailer today and towed it down the RV drive to get it out of the way of some work that needs to be done behind the house. After I finished unhitching the rig, I took a pair of images to be merged into a 3D anaglyph image.

The Rock Project – in 3D

rock-project.pngAfter the monsoons caused some modest erosion in our RV drive hill last week, I started placing rocks in some of the little rivulets on the slope over the RV drive. Today’s project was to stack rocks in the two major erosion areas under the low spot on the hill.

I must have hauled a half-ton of small boulders and rocks from our “quarry” on the west side of the property. Many trips were required to get enough rocks to stack up the depressions in the hillside. I nearly finished the stack on the left center of the image and got about halfway through stacking the right depression. I didn’t run out of time (I’m retired 😉 ) but I did run out of motivation (energy?) at this point. More rocks to come later this week. Or next. Or whenever.
