The Big “O”

The old and tired saying comes to mind: If I knew I was going to live this long, I’d have taken better care of myself. However, despite our reckless self-deprecation in our earlier years, we have managed to turn all the bad habits into less-worse habits and persevered this far down the road to eternity. We remain in good health and visit the specialists of the few ailments (now in remission) who monitor those functions and all gauges are in the green.

Our festivities for the day will consist of Steaks on the Barbie with a nice salad provided by Verna. There might even be a couple of adult beverages consumed as the day goes on.

We may get some rain and a possible Thunderstorm later today. As I look back on the years, I can remember quite a few times we had lightning shows in mid to late July. That would be nice if we have some of that today – we could use the cooler weather, but not so much the inevitable humidity that comes with it.

Here’s to another trip around Old Sol.

Photo Update — May 22, 2023

It’s been several weeks since we did a photo update. Here we are with Cabela and Tucker in the courtyard enjoying a nice spring day with the temperature up to about 97° which was the expected high.

For lunch, we enjoyed Cheeseburgers today with a cool adult beverage. We took a walk afterwards as well.

Happy Heavenly Birthday Kate!

Happy Heavenly Birthday to our Mom, Kate, who would have been 103 years old today. Inset is her wedding picture from 1938 and Morro Rock is where her ashes were scattered in accordance with her wishes.

Photo Update

It’s been eleven months since we did a photo update. Here we are in the courtyard enjoying a nice spring day with the temperature up to about 72° with an expected high of 76°.

Today, we’re going to grill up a couple of Filet Mignon steaks and Verna will fix a nice salad to go with the meal. Yes, the dogs will be getting some of the scraps.

A Very Nostalgic Photo

Brothers at a Wedding

During the past week, my niece, Amanda, shared the photo above on one of the social media platforms we frequent. She said “Look what I came across!” It is a photo of me (left) and my younger (but taller) brother, James, on his wedding day. I was Jim’s best man in the ceremony when he married Darla, who also happened to be one of my classmates in High School.

I have never seen this photo despite having (obviously) been there when it was taken in July of 1970. Someone may have posed us in the tie-fixing photo but the truth is that I just don’t remember. The wedding took place nearly 53 years ago. But, there we are, all young and dapper-looking, preparing for the wedding. I was about to turn 27 and Jim was 23 years old.

Niece Amanda also attached one more photo in her social media post of the wedding couple and their folks:

Jim and Darla and their Parents

These photos will be added to my collection of nostalgic items archived on the genealogy website that I use.

Our Great Grandsons

Our eldest Granddaughter sent Alex (top) and Mikey’s 2022 School Photos to us this morning. It’s hard to reconcile how mature these boys are getting. Their Mom’s comment was “I guess Alex is already too cool to smile . . .” Alex just turned eight and Mikey will be five in a few weeks.

The boys are two of our four great grandchildren, the others being girls, Maci age six and Kenna age three; the girls are the children of our second eldest granddaughter while the boys’ Mom is our eldest granddaughter.

A third granddaughter is still without kids for the time being.
