Barrel Cactus Flowers
We stopped in Wickieup, AZ on Thursday to walk the dogs and stretch a bit. Along the roadside there is this barrel cactus in bloom. I like the pinkish flowers on this one. Second Spring has arrived in Arizona. Click on the image to enlarge.
Bishop Rose
The hotel in Bishop, where we are currently staying, has a small rose garden. I paused after we arrived and went over to get this photo of one of the lovely, fragrant blooms. Click on the image to enlarge.
Pink Oleander Flowers
We don’t have any oleanders on our property, but there are several down the road a hundred feet or so. The house where these are has white, red and these pink flowers going all spring and summer. The bushes have very pretty flowers, but they freeze easily in the winter and require more maintenance than we are willing to provide. Click on the image to enlarge.
Compass Barrel Cactus Flowers
I hiked up on the hill behind the house to look at some damage caused a couple of weeks ago by a severe thunderstorm that came through the area. There were some broken limbs and two toppled palo verde trees. There were also some uprooted cholla cacti. Luckily, none of our favorite cacti were damaged. I took a photo of the lone compass cactus on the hill with its crown of flower buds, one of which is open. Click on the image to enlarge.
Cimarron Sage Flowers
It seems that after a sizable rainfall, we get a lot of these little bluish purple flowers on the Cimarron sage bushes. I took this image on Thursday evening as we were out walking the dogs.
When the flowers drop off in a few days, we will take the trimmer to these bushes in that they are encroaching the driveway. Click on the image to enlarge.
