Nostalgic Neon Clock

route66-clock.jpgWe went shopping at our local discount emporium Saturday looking for a new clock for the family room. While we were there Verna brought my attention to this little beauty. I guess they must have been a popular item, ’cause this one, which was on display, was the last one in the store. Verna went and got a clerk to get it off of the wall for us, and it now hangs above the entertainment center like a majestic beacon. Oh – and it tells the time too.

Our recent vacation took us along parts of old Route 66 in Arizona; this little nostalgic trinket brings back fond memories. Not just from the last trip, but over the years back to before the 1970s when old Route 66 still thrived. Click on the thumbnail for a larger view.

Oh No! 10,000 Miles On The Sebring!

sebring.jpgAfter nearly eight years, my little Chrysler Sebring Convertible has finally passed 10,000 miles on the odometer. I know – most people have that sort of mileage after a few months of ownership, but I got this little car just about the time I retired from the daily grind, and settled down to take care of the domicile, the puppies, my gardens and my husband. Not a bad gig after all those years of wiping noses and butts raising the kids as a mother and wiping noses and butts taking care of customers as a sales representative.

9999.jpgI only drive it for recreation, when I need to run an errand by myself or when the truck is in the shop. That was the case last week when the SUV had a flat tire, and my little car had to go to work for a day. When it went, the odometer read 9999 on the way out of the driveway.

Green Spider

While in the garden taking pictures, I saw this little green spider crawling around on one of my morning glory flowers – sorta creepy and pretty at the same time. Mostly creepy though.

This might be a green lynx spider which are hunting spiders that spend their lives on plants, flowers and shrubs. Nimble runners and jumpers, they rely on their keen eyesight to stalk, chase or ambush prey.

Flat in the Driveway

gar-flatJJ’s truck woke up with a problem. Verna noticed it and told him. After a while, our neighbor Don offered the use of a floor jack, even though there is one in our garage. I guess JJ didn’t know.

This picture is from one of the two webcams we have looking at the street. You can see both of them in real time (refresh for latest image) in the bottom of the left sidebar on the main page.

USPS — United States Parcel Smashers

bent-pkg.jpgIs it just me, or does everyone get their parcels smashed by the Postal “Service?” This box only contained a book, so there wasn’t any serious damage done. Click the image for a close-up.

This isn’t the first time that we have encountered this sort of scrunched package – once we had to return a ceramic crock which had been jolted into shards even though it was packed to withstand a ten foot drop. It looked like one of the handlers went “postal” on it.

When we use Fed Ex or UPS this never seems to happen.

Bromeliad

Every couple of years, our Bromeliad on the front porch will produce one of these brilliant pink flowers. Eventually, there will also be purple pods embedded in the flower, which adds more color. These come and go quickly, but not as fast as the cactus blossoms. Verna took this shot of the bloom this morning.

A while ago, I took this 3D picture of a previous bloom from the same plant (you need red/blue or red/cyan 3D glasses to view).
