This lovely little patch of the Sonoran Desert is a mere 500 feet from our driveway. There are several varieties of desert plants visible in the photo, including the prominent saguaro with palo verde, mesquite, prickly pear, yucca and creosote. Every so often, Verna declares a “Verna Day,” when she pampers herself with a hot shower, facial, shampoo and the works. Well, today I was up on the hill at the bird feeders when I took this photo of Verna letting her hair dry in the warm Arizona sun. Click on the image to enlarge.
It tuns out that 2013 is the sesquicentennial anniversary of our cute little town. I’m sure there will be celebrations and events, but I don’t know what and when. Today, we went to the optometrist. It was my turn to get new clear glasses. Last time, I got new sunglasses (prescription, of course). The doctor said everything looked OK except that my old clear glasses were out of date.

I cleaned up one of the mesquite trees up on the hill above the RV drive last week. During the trimming, I noticed some deadwood still attached to the tree. I would have removed it, except the shears I was using weren’t big enough to get around the largest part of the deadwood.
Yesterday, I went into the hardware store and bought a hand saw. Today, I was on the hill hacking through the deadwood. Verna stuck her head out the back patio to catch this image of me between hackings. Click on the image to enlarge.
Verna and I trimmed and cleaned up some of the shrubs and other stuff in the courtyard today. I set my little Canon A710IS on the courtyard wall and took this picture of myself and the courtyard. The red birds are dormant for the winter but the Cleveland sage bushes needed pruning. So did the flowering plum tree, not visible in the photo. Click on the image to enlarge.
