Our 24th Wedding Anniversary

Cutting the Wedding Cake

Today we’re celebrating the twenty-fourth anniversary of our wedding. This is a photo taken at our wedding reception which was held in Avalon, on Catalina Island, at the Blue Parrot Restaurant and Bar adjacent to the Hotel Metropole on Crescent Avenue, the main drag along the shore of Avalon Harbor. The Blue Parrot is now gone, having been converted to additional hotel spaces for the Metropole. We revisited the island for several years around the time of our anniversaries and finally, as we mentioned last year, we stopped going back.

This year was the year of Tanzanite and Verna got several small, but pretty, jewelry items made from it. Next year, we will be having our quadranscentennial anniversary, and we look ahead to celebrating the Silver Jubilee.

23rd Wedding Anniversary

Today is the 23rd anniversary of our wedding. We were married in the city of Avalon, on Catalina Island, California.

We both say that we should have gotten married long before we made the decision to do so, but things have a way of happening and it is what it is. We are certainly glad that we are together now and always will be.

For several years, after about our fifth year of being married, we would celebrate by going to Catalina Island the week of our anniversary. We stopped doing that for several reasons, not the least of which was we relocated to Arizona. Avalon was getting too crowded and the crime rate started to be too “marginal” for our safety.

Now, we’re so happy to be on “permanent” vacation in our retirement home in the desert. We take occasional excursions in our Motorhome to let us see some of the rest of our country and will be taking another trip real soon.

Of course, we celebrated this year by getting Verna a trinket featuring an Imperial topaz Gemstone listed for the 23rd Anniversary.

Nineteenth Wedding Anniversary

Bracelet

Today is the nineteenth anniversary of our wedding day. We were married in the City of Avalon on Catalina Island. Dozens of friends and family were in attendance.

In addition to the 19th anniversary gemstone aquamarine bracelet shown above, Verna has another turquoise and silver rope bracelet. The latter two were purchased locally while the AQ came in the mail from an on-line vendor. Next year is the Emerald anniversary.

Point Vicente Fishing Access Panorama

I only found out today that the City of Rancho Palos Verdes now owns and maintains the Point Vicente Fishing Access property off of Palos Verdes Drive South. The City acquired this property from Los Angeles County through a grant deed in May 2004. This 10.5-acre site features a paved parking lot, a restroom building, an improved trail to the shoreline, and incredible Catalina and ocean views.

We were up there a couple of months ago when the air was particularly clear. I took six images and stitched them together to make the panoramic image. Click on the thumbnail panorama to see full sized. Scroll to the right for Catalina Island and some vessels in the channel.

Island Panorama

When we were at Terranea a few days ago, Verna took this photo of Santa Catalina Island from the “Discovery Trail” pathway along the cliffs overlooking the Catalina Channel. I cropped it down into this panoramic image. Click on the image to see full-sized in the image viewer.

Point Vicente Panorama

Verna and I took a quick detour to point Vicente today after visiting the County Recycle Center. I snapped a series of images toward the point and Catalina Island and “stitched” them together to make the panorama below. Click on the thumbnail for the full-sized image.
