Between Weekend Errands
Lately, we’ve found ourselves dropping in to the Point Vicente Interpretive Center. We were shopping today and decided to stop and try to spot some migrating whales. We didn’t see any whales, but there were pelicans swooping past the cliffs and the waves and color of the ocean were very nice. At one point, we posed for this photo.
Paperwhites
These paperwhites don’t live in our garden, but belong to a neighbor. They were so pretty that I took the camera over there and got a picture.
My Waterford Valentine
For the last several years, Bob gave me Waterford Crystal for Valentine’s Day. This year was no exception. This beautiful ‘Seahorse’ pitcher matches many of my other Waterford pieces.
Here’s some information about the town of Waterford, Ireland, where these are manufactured.
Waterford (from the Old Norse: Vedrarfjord meaning “Ram fjord” or Windy fjord; Irish: Port Lairge, meaning Hilly Shore) is a city in Ireland. It is the primary city of the South East region, and the fifth largest in the country. Founded in 914 AD, by the Vikings, it is Ireland’s oldest city.
Waterford is the largest city in Ireland to retain its Viking-derived name, Vedrarfjord. Reginald’s Tower is the oldest urban civic building in Ireland, and the oldest monument to retain its Viking name. It is to this day Waterford’s most recognizable landmark. The tower is believed to be the first building in Ireland to use mortar.
Today, Waterford is synonymous with Waterford Crystal the world over, a legacy of one of the city’s most successful and enduring industries, glass making. Glass, or crystal, has been manufactured in the city since 1783.

St. Valentine was a Priest, martyred in 269 at Rome and was buried on the Flaminian Way. He is the Patron Saint of affianced couples, bee keepers, engaged couples, epilepsy, fainting, greetings, happy marriages, love, lovers, plague, travelers, young people. He is represented in pictures with birds and roses.
A Cow on the Balcony?
We’re not sure what sort of statement the people who live in this house are trying to make, but it is a strange thing to see a cow on a balcony in Torrance, California. Photographed in the vicinity of Torrance High.
