Block Party Street Pamorama

On the Fourth of July some of the neighbors petitioned the city to allow them to close off a section of the street to traffic so they could have a block party. Verna and I were not involved (we do our own BBQ thing) but I went out on the front balcony and took a series of photos that I stitched into this panoramic image. Palo Verde

palo-verde-flower.jpgThere are several Palo Verde trees growing on our lot in Arizona. One of them, along the road, was home to a tiny Verdin making her nest there when we visited in June.

In May of 2009, we were in Arizona at the National Rifle Association convention. We drove a rented motorhome to Phoenix and camped in an RV park a few miles from the convention center. There were several Palo Verde trees in the RV park. This one, near the dog run, had low hanging branches so I was able to get a close up of the tiny flowers that come in the spring. Steak on the Barbecue

top-sirloin.jpgLast week in the supermarket, Verna spotted this nice top sirloin steak in the butcher case. This was a huge piece of beef weighing in at three pounds. The butcher wrapped it and we had our holiday barbecue main entreé. We served it with steamed broccoli, pasta salad and corn on the cob.

Today, Verna prepared steak salad with some of the leftover steak cut into bite-sized chunks over chopped hearts of romaine and topped with Caesar salad dressing. Instead of Caesar Salad, this version (with beef) is called a Marc Anthony salad.

BBQ Day

bbq-watch.jpgToday, the Daddy rolled the grill thing onto the patio and started a fire. Then he went into the house and brought out a big piece of beef. He put the meat on the grill and it sizzled and started to smell really good.

I like it when the Daddy does the grill thing. There always is a treat or two when he’s cooking and there are leftovers the hoomins give me after they eat. I like treats and leftovers. I eat all the leftovers, get a drink of water and then I go take a nap. The picture is me watching the Daddy work the grill thing. Click to make me big.

Point Vicente Fishing Access Panorama

I only found out today that the City of Rancho Palos Verdes now owns and maintains the Point Vicente Fishing Access property off of Palos Verdes Drive South. The City acquired this property from Los Angeles County through a grant deed in May 2004. This 10.5-acre site features a paved parking lot, a restroom building, an improved trail to the shoreline, and incredible Catalina and ocean views.

We were up there a couple of months ago when the air was particularly clear. I took six images and stitched them together to make the panoramic image. Click on the thumbnail panorama to see full sized. Scroll to the right for Catalina Island and some vessels in the channel.
