Ready to Rumble

This is Bear. She adores jumping in the back of the SUV to take a ride, no matter how far. After coming home from the range today, Verna took this picture of Bear after loading her into the truck for a ride around the block. Click image to enlarge.

Ahh, The Joys of Home Ownership . . .

water-heater.jpgAfter a lukewarm shower Friday morning, I investigated the possible cause. It turned out that the water heater pilot light had gone out. After several unsuccessful attempts at relighting it, I gave up and headed off to work.

Later on Friday, I finished my chores at work and headed home early to address the problem. After a couple of calls, I found out that there was a service bulletin to fix a common failure for our water heater. A ‘kit’ to fix a well-known failure was available from the local Lowe’s free of charge. I headed off to get the ‘kit’ and brought it home to install.

I struggled with the installation and finally got the water heater back to doing its business as usual. Of course, there had to be the requisite ‘blue smoke’ and red blood imparted to validate the installation.

The good news and bottom line: no cost to me dollar-wise and the water is hot again.

Satellite Dog

Wow! Bear just got this deluxe doggie-reception device for the Animal Planet channel!

Actually, she has a ‘hot-spot’ on her skin that we’re medicating and she’s not allowed to munch on it while it’s healing. We installed this ‘Elizabethan Collar’ last night.

Bird Man of Torrance

Bird ManThank God it’s not The Bird Man of Alcatraz!

A regular event in our weekly routine is when Bob fills the bird feeders out back. We get several varieties of birds who take advantage of the easy pickin’s in the back yard. House sparrows, house finches, turtle doves, pigeons (a.k.a. rock doves) and hummingbirds are regular visitors to the back yard feeders, the latter going for the nectar in the hummingbird feeder which is my job to fill. The wire cage is set up so the larger birds cant get some of the treats we think should be for the little birds.

I’ll have some pictures of various birds in future postings. Click the picture for a closer look.
