Lunch at Ike’s Golden Nugget

Lunchtime

Verna and I decided to check out Ike’s Gold Nugget restaurant that recently opened their doors after restoration and remodeling of the old Nugget under Ike’s management. The Cook Shack, Ike’s former venue, is now closed, but they brought some of the old menu and combined it with the new place.

We had a lovely day today. Temperature was in the high 70’s with sweet breezes. We sat on the outdoor patio and enjoyed a chili size that we split. I had the camera’s robot take this photo as we posed. Click on the image to enlarge.

Grill Season Returns

Bob at the grill

Well, grill season never ended, Wickenburg winters being what they are. This was the second weekend in 2015 that we grilled our dinner. Two weeks ago, we had Grilled New York Steaks and this weekend, we grilled a Santa Maria Tri-Tip Roast.

This is the first time this year that I opened the awning on the trailer to provide shade for the grill. Verna helped me to lift the grill onto the RV drive.

I took this self-portrait of me having fun grillin’ using the new camera. Click on the image to enlarge.

Smoker

Smoker

We’re breaking in the new electric smoker this afternoon. Getting it seasoned with mesquite chips/smoke. We have yet to smoke our first entree on this one. Our old charcoal-powered smoker did pretty good, so this one could do as well plus being easier to use and clean. I have some pork and fish in the freezer that will be the first experiments.

Saimin

Saimin

I mentioned a Hawaiian favorite soup to Verna a while back and she made this delicious SAIMIN soup treat for dinner today. This version had chunks of beef, white mushrooms, carrots, red bell peppers, bok choi and Asian noodles. Very tasty! Click on the image to enlarge.

First Lemons of The Season

Lemon MargaritasWe started harvesting the first lemons from our “orchard” today. In reality, we had to rescue some of the low hanging fruit in danger of dragging on the ground. We did, however, get one nice ripe lemon to garnish a couple of lemon Margaritas that Verna poured.

If you look closely (click on the image to enlarge), you can see the Margarita glasses are a couple of zany skeleton faces that we recently acquired for the Halloween season.

Saturday Grillin’ ‘n’ Cookin’

Tenderloin Steaks

We had a dinner guest today, our neighbor from across the road. Since it is a holiday weekend, we thought it appropriate to grill up a few beef tenderloin steaks. In the meantime, and before the steaks went on the grill, Verna prepared her wonderful broccoli au gratin and Danish stuffed potatoes for the side dishes.

Dinner was delicious and everyone enjoyed the meal. We had a chance to visit with the neighbor and to catch up on happenings in town, since he is out and about much more than we.

The dogs, who tend to be overprotective and territorial, finally settled down after a few minutes and welcomed our visitor as a friend. They must have sensed that there might be some steak tidbits if they were good and behaved themselves. 😉
