Retirement

What’s For Dinner?

Grilled Tenderloin Steak

We returned from the California trip to see the new grandbaby on Sunday, which would normally be a cooking day, so all we had on that day was some leftover bean soup. It was a hearty soup, though, and more than adequate for our Sunday meal.

One of the nice things about retirement is that you have a week full of virtual Saturdays to do whatever the hell you want, so today, I pulled the grill to the back of the patio and grilled up a couple of petite beef tenderloin steaks. Verna had some leftover Broccoli Mac’n’Cheese in the freezer, a can of green peas and some Romaine lettuce for a Cesar salad on the side.

This Monday meal was as good as any Sunday cooking day could have been. Click on the image to enlarge.

One Happy Grandma and a Beautiful New Baby

One Happy Grandma

We got home today from the road trip to California to see the new baby. Grandma Verna is still floating around with the happiness as a result of having a new grandson.

Quoting her, “He’s so soft, long fingers and toes, perfect in every way!” Baby G is still very little, but in perfect health and will be gaining weight every day since he is now nursing very well.

“I just love him – I told him so and he seemed to smile back at me when I did.” Click on the image to enlarge.

Baby G Video

Grandma Verna got to hold our new grandson today. He is the cutest little thing. This video shows him working real hard to pass his last meal of milk that Verna fed to him just before.

He is small, still just over five pounds, but perfect in every way. He has a nice round head, long fingers and toes, is gaining weight and, of course, pooping and peeing his fair share. We hated to say goodbye for now when we headed back to our campsite.

The other set of Grandparents told us that the new little guy will be visiting them often and said we’re welcome to come here whenever he’s in town. We will probably be back in September when we are planning to take our next California trip.

Announcing Our New Grandson – Baby G

Meet Baby G! Dad JJ and Mom Sara’s first baby. He’s a little boy, only five pounds two ounces at birth, but is a strong and healthy baby. Being he was a little earlier than expected, the staff held him in the hospital while they did some standard tests to see if he could be cleared to go home, which he passed easily.

JJ sent us the video seen on the right of Baby G sleeping, but active. We already have received a lot of still photos of him which we posted on Facebook and other places.

We are currently making plans to go see the new little guy who is staying with his mom and the other set of grandparents who live about three and a half hours drive from here. We sure are looking forward to meeting our new grandson very soon.

Vulture Mountain Panorama

Vulture Mountain Panorama

We took the dogs to the groomer today. While we were out running some errands, we took a very short drive out into the Vulture Mountains south of town. We seldom do this, but had some time since the dogs were otherwise occupied and we felt like seeing some of our wonderful desert scenery up close.

I composed this panoramic image along the roadside of a local mountain ridge with a rock outcropping on the left in the foreground and Vulture peak in the distance on the right. This view shows a saguaro-studded landscape with a sprinkling of teddy bear cholla and palo verde trees. Click on the image to view the full-sized panorama.

Staging the Trailer

Trailer

I pulled the trailer across the road today because we’re going to hook it up with all the sway bars and such for a trip to the dealer. The reason we’re going to the dealer instead of going on a nice road trip is that the trailer air conditioner is malfunctioning and that item has to be 100% or no go.

We will plan on taking a road trip in August and September to possibly visit our California children, grandchildren and a great grandchild. A new grandson is expected to debut in August and we don’t want to miss that. Our great grandson will be turning one year old in September and we don’t want to miss that either.

So, it’s off to the dealer this week to drop off the trailer which, hopefully, will be ready to pick up next week. Then we can get it back to the RV drive where we can prep it for the road trips.
