New Friend at the Dog Park

New Friend

This is Bay Bay and Cabela meeting and greeting “Cha Cha” who is a rare brown and white Boston terrier. Cha Cha was in the small part of the Wickenburg Dog Park just on the other side of the chain link fence from where our dogs were romping.

Cha Cha’s mom and dad are snowbirds from British Columbia who will be going home this weekend since the weather there is almost livable now that spring has sprung. We expect many more snowbirds to depart between now and Memorial Day, when our town’s roads and facilities will be more to our liking due to the decreased population in the late spring, summer and early fall.

Both of our dogs love the dog park and had a very good time today. Bay Bay got into the tub, as usual, and Cabela romped and sniffed and did whatever she wanted until it was time to go home.

The Mama Walking with Bay Bay

The Mama Walking with Bay Bay

Cabela and I get to go walking with the Mama and the Daddy several times a day. When the Mama and Daddy eat lunch, they give us treats and then we get to go for the long walk. The Daddy took this picture of the Mama and me on our way back home from the walk. Click on us to make us big.

Lunch at Ike’s Golden Nugget

Lunchtime

Verna and I decided to check out Ike’s Gold Nugget restaurant that recently opened their doors after restoration and remodeling of the old Nugget under Ike’s management. The Cook Shack, Ike’s former venue, is now closed, but they brought some of the old menu and combined it with the new place.

We had a lovely day today. Temperature was in the high 70’s with sweet breezes. We sat on the outdoor patio and enjoyed a chili size that we split. I had the camera’s robot take this photo as we posed. Click on the image to enlarge.

Always Something to Do

Gate Repair

Owning a home, as the title of this post suggests, requires a little tune-up here and there from time to time (pardon the repeated trite metaphors). I was in the courtyard to fill in a hole that one of the little varmint squirrels had dug by the new plum tree, when I noticed that the gate latch was not tightly screwed down. Verna got this photo of me tweaking the screws a bit tighter. Click on the image to enlarge.

The repair of the latch, however, generated another problem with the gate; the latch bar no longer lines up with the hole in the post plate. I couldn’t fix that problem on my own, but we have a crew coming in next month to fix a lot of these little gripes. This is just another on the list of stuff that needs work.

We’re also getting retaining walls for the monsoon floods, a new flagpole, a new bathtub enclosure, concrete driveway and the list goes on. I will post about the progress of the work we’re getting done.

Christmas Squirrel

Squirrel

This morning while hanging the bird feeders, this little antelope ground squirrel hopped up on a branch and commenced begging for a handout. This frequently happens in our back yard. Of course, I tossed some birdseed his way. Click on the image to enlarge.

Saimin

Saimin

I mentioned a Hawaiian favorite soup to Verna a while back and she made this delicious SAIMIN soup treat for dinner today. This version had chunks of beef, white mushrooms, carrots, red bell peppers, bok choi and Asian noodles. Very tasty! Click on the image to enlarge.
